This travelling exhibition was designed to show outdoor folk art at its best in its natural habitat: the backyard garden. Approximately 150 pieces including whirligigs, weathervanes and birdhouses are displayed in environmental settings. Extensive use of artificial trees and plants, several large architectural features (house, barn, front porch, gazebo), a real water pond, birdsong and other outdoor sound effects all combine to guide the senses through this imaginary garden. Discretely integrated throughout are illustrated artifact guide booklets. |
